Becoming Pilot in The Philippines
There are lot of speculation about how acquiring Pilot License is a bit hassle and creates confusion to students who basically want to get wings to fly an Aircraft. The Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines certify each of Pilots in the Philippines.
All flying schools follow CAAP rule and standardization hence there are specific requirements one must follow to gain license as a Pilot. Here’s a quick guide on what basics you need to know on becoming a Pilot in the Philippines:
Requirements under Civil Air Regulations of the Philippines; Licensing:
Student Pilot Authorization PCAR 2.3.3.1
- Shall not be less than 16 years of age
- Can read, speak and understand English
- Must hold current class 2 Medical Certificate
- Pre- solo flight instruction
- Solo flight
While holding your SPL, you need to build hours up to 40 – 45 then log it to your logbook. This serves as your requirement to apply for Private Pilot exam permit aside from your Flight Time Certificate.

Private Pilot License (A) PCAR 2.3.3.2
- Shall not be less than 17 years of age.
- Shall receive and log ground training from an authorized instructor on the following subjects:
- Airlaw
- Aircraft General Knowledge
- Flight Performance and Planning
- Human Performance
- Meteorology
- Navigation
- Operational Procedures
- Principles of Flight
- Radiotelephony
- Shall have completed not less than 40 hours of flight time / 5 hour may have been completed in a flight simulator or flight procedures trainer.
Commercial Pilot License (A) PCAR 2.3.3.3
- Shall not be less than 18 years of age.
- Shall receive and log ground training from an authorized instructor on the following subjects under CPL (A) rules:
- Airlaw
- Aircraft General Knowledge
- Flight Performance and Planning
- Human Performance
- Meteorology
- Navigation
- Operational Procedures
- Principles of Flight
- Radiotelephony
- Shall have completed 150hrs during an Authority-approved training course for in an Approved Training Organization , of which 10 hours
- Class 1 Medical Certificate
- Should hold PPL (A)
Airline Transport Pilot License (A) PCAR 2.3.3.4
- Shall not less than 21 years of age
- Shall receive and log ground training from an authorized instructor on the following subjects under ATPL (A) rules:
- Airlaw
- Aircraft General Knowledge
- Flight Performance and Planning
- Human Performance
- Meteorology
- Navigation
- Operational Procedures
- Principles of Flight
- Radiotelephony
- Shall have completed not less than 1,500 hours of flight time as a pilot of airplanes of which a maximum of 100 hours may have been completed in a flight simulator. The applicant shall have completed in airplanes not less than:
- 250
hours, either as pilot-in-command, or made up by not less than 100 hours as pilot-in-command
and the necessary additional flight time as co-pilot performing, under the
supervision of the pilot-in-command, the duties and functions of a
pilot-in-command; provided that the method of supervision employed is
acceptable to the Authority
- 200 hours of cross-country flight time, of which not less than 100 hours shall be as pilot-in-command or as co-pilot performing.
- 75 hours of instrument time, of which not more than 30 hours may be instrument ground time
- 100 hours of night flight as pilot-in-command or as co-pilot
- Shall have completed a CRM course
- Shall be the holder of a CPL(A) with instrument and multi-engine rating issued
Shall have received the dual flight instruction required for the issue of the CPL(A) and the IR
